CLASS ACTION HERNIA MESH LAWSUIT

Surgical hernia mesh is used as a patch to support damaged and/or weakened tissues. Surgical meshes are typically made of either synthetic material or animal tissue. Meshes made from animal tissue are absorbable and eventually degrade as new tissue grows around the mesh. Surgical mesh made from synthetic materials can be absorbable, non-absorbable, or a combination of both.

A variety of complications can arise from hernia repair surgery including:

  • Pain
  • Infection
  • Recurrence of a hernia
  • Adhesion of tissues
  • Bowel obstruction
  • Tissue or organ perforation
  • Mesh migration
  • Removal of permanent mesh

Several mesh products have been recalled by the FDA. The removal of the recalled mesh products is often difficult for patients requiring a recovery period often longer than that required from the initial hernia surgery.
