NEWTOWN, PA, July 14, 2023 — The law firm of Edelson Lechtzin LLP is investigating claims regarding data privacy violations by Pension Benefit Information, LLC (“PBI”). PBI learned of the suspicious activity on or about May 30, 2023, and sent out letters to the affected individuals on July 12, 2023.

Background on PBI

PBI is a third-party vendor utilized by thousands of entities to verify information to prevent overpayments to retirees.

What happened?

PBI uses a managed file transfer software known as MOVEit which suffered a data breach on or about May 30, 2023, enabling access to information stored by PBI on behalf of its clients. A few of the entities impacted are CalPERS, CalSTRS, Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System, Rhode Island Employee’s Retirement System, Genworth Financial and Wilton Reassurance. Information that was exposed includes: name, date of birth, address and social security numbers.
